[mək'daʊəl], Edward Alexander, amerikanischer Komponist, * New York 18. 12. 1860, ✝ ebenda 23. 1. 1908; studierte in Paris (A. F. Marmontel, A. Savard), Wiesbaden und Frankfurt am Main (J. Raff), wirkte ab 1888 in Boston (Massachusetts) und wurde 1896 Professor für Musik an der Columbia University in New York; gilt mit seinen Werken (sinfonische Dichtungen, Klavierkonzerte, Kammermusik) als einer der führenden amerikanischen Spätromantiker.
